I spent most of my teenage years wishing I was older so I could do the things that older people did. Thinking back before I got my driver’s license or before I was able to get into a club or go to a bar, I wished I was old enough for such things.
My, my, how times have changed. Now I wish I was younger to experience the things I missed when I was too busy wasting time, wishing I was older.
The point is – we’re never happy. In the summer we wish for fall weather and in the winter, we’re counting the days until spring. If only we could be happy with the present.
Recently I had a conversation with a friend who had just turned 64 years old and was wishing he was 65 just so he could get on to Medicare because his Health Insurance was costing him an arm and a leg. Think about that: wishing time away.
I’ll be the first to tell you that being on Medicare is much less expensive than the cost of a Health Insurance policy. And if you have the right supplement, your out-of-pocket costs will be next to nothing.
October 15th is the beginning of Open Enrollment for eligible Medicare beneficiaries. You have until December 7th to make the necessary changes to maximize your Medicare benefits and have them effective for January 1st of next year.
Unfortunately, there is a lot of misinformation circulating around this time of the year. TV commercials featuring your favorite Star Trek Captain, or your favorite NY Jets Quarterback fills the airways with talk that’s meant to sway you toward a particular type of Medicare plan. Many times, these types of plans will leave you wishing you hadn’t chosen them.
Picking the right supplement and Rx coverage is very important to an eligible Medicare beneficiary. You need someone who has the expertise to provide you with the right plan: one that won’t leave you at a disadvantage.
